시각장애인은 터치형 스마트폰을 선호하지만, 터치스크린의 가상 키패드에서 키 위치를 인식하기 어려워서 사용하지 못하고 있다. 이를 개선하기 위해 본 논문에서는 시각장애인에게 익숙한 폴더형 스마트폰과 유사하도록 터치형 스마트폰에 부착 가능한 물리 키패드 모듈을 구현한다. 구현된 시스템은 물리 키패드 모듈을 터치형 스마트폰의 전면에 부착하고, 서로 USB 케이블로 연결한 후, 키 입력은 터치 스크린이 아닌 물리 키패드 모듈을 통해 정보를 입력받는다. 물리 키패드 모듈은 4*5 매트릭스 구조의 키패드, MCU, 그리고 C타입 USB 커넥터로 구성된다. 시각장애인이 키패드를 통해 입력한 키 정보는 HID 형식으로 변환되어 터치형 스마트폰의 서비스 앱으로 전달된다. 4*5 키패드의 키 배열은 시각장애인에게 익숙한 폴더형 스마트폰에서 적용되고 있는 4*4 천지인 키배열과 4개의 기능 키로 구성된다. 추가된 4개의 기능키는 인터넷 접근성을 용이하게 하기 위해 많이 사용되는 ‘상/하’ 이동키와 ‘OK’ 키, 그리고 단축키이다. 구현된 USB 키패드 모듈을 다양한 터치형 스마트폰에 적용함으로써 시각장애인들의 스마트폰 접근성이 향상될 것으로 기대한다.
The visually impaired prefer a touch-type smartphone, but cannot use it because it is difficult to recognize the key position on the virtual keypad on the touch screen. To improve this, this paper implements a physical keypad module that can be attached to a touch- type smartphone, which is similar to a foldable smartphones familiar to the visually impaired. The implemented system attaches the physical keypad module to the front surface of the touch-type smartphone, and connects them with each other with a USB cable, and key input is received through the physical keypad module rather than the touch screen. The physical keypad module consists of a 4*5 matrix structure keypad, MCU, and a C-type USB connector. The key input through the keypad by the visually impaired is converted into HID format and delivered to the service app of the touch-type smartphone. Key arrangement of the 4*5 keypad is composed of the 4*4 ‘Cheonjiin’ key arrangement applied to foldable smartphones that are familiar to the visually impaired, and 4 functional keys. 4 functional keys are the ‘up/down’ key, ‘OK’ key, and shortcut key, which are often used to facilitate Internet access. By applying the implemented USB keypad module to various touch-type smartphone, it is expected that the smartphone accessibility for the visually impaired will be improved.
