Abstract
Human body odor consists of various components. 2-Nonenal which is representative material of senior odor is occurred by oxidation of skin secretion. In order to quantify 2-nonenal, gas chromatography-mass spectrometer (GC-MS) can be used as odor analyzer, but it is difficult because of very expensive cost, long measurement time, and sampling odor directly. On the other hand, quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) sensor can easily be used for sensing human body odor because of cheap cost, rapid response time and without sampling. For sensing 2-nonenal, we introduced βCD as host compound in QCM sensor. To modify it on QCM surface, thiolated βCD (βCD-SH) was synthesized by substitution reaction to thiol group from all primary hydroxy group of βCD. The synthesized βCD-SH was modified onto QCM surface with thiolated alkyl chain and gold nanoparticles by self-assembly. Measurement of 2-nonenal was carried out according to concentration of 2-nonenal solution. Also, reliability of measured data was compared with GC-MS data. Finally, we calculated inclusion properties between βCD-SH and 2-nonenal by Sauerbrey’s equation.
