Among the various self-directed learning methods in which learners construct their own learning, project-based learning (PjBL) has the ultimate goal of finding practical solutions that can be used in the real world, so it can be used to develop class expertise. This study relates to a class case in which a system design course was operated by applying PjBL's teaching method. In order for the class to be a process of self-directed learning to solve the PjBL problem, it was composed of the process of presenting and confirming the problem, setting up scaffolding, collecting data, reconfirming the problem and presenting the solution plan, and presenting and evaluating the problem solution. The students performed tasks such as collaborative learning and presentation of results, peer evaluation and self-evaluation, and submission of final reports to solve environmental problems using software. The students experienced self- directed learning by designing software with standardized UML design tools while defining problems through learning and teamwork in the approach to the domain presented as an experience of class applying PjBL. In addition, from the beginning to the end of the software project, he gave positive meaning to his experience by demonstrating teamwork and self-directed problem-solving. In this discussion, it was suggested that students can develop their creative competency and instructional expertise as software developers through the PjBL class as in the case of this study.
