Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting metabolic syndrome in Korean women in their 20s to 40s. The 9th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) data were used and out of a total of 6,265 respondents, 1,111 female respondents aged 19 to 49 were analyzed. The collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. As a result of the study, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 8.2%, and the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis were conducted to reveal the factors affecting metabolic syndrome in women in their 20s to 40s, including age, health checkup, weight change over 1 year, frequency of binge drinking, and walking per week. The number of walking days per week was significant, and the goodness of fit and explanatory power of the regression model were 18.6% (Hosmer & Lemeshow p-value=0.818 Nagelkerke R2=0.159). The prevalence rate increased in the 30~39 year-old group. The group that did not receive a health checkup, the group that gained weight over the past year, and the frequency of binge drinking was once a week. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome was found to increase in the group that binge drank less or almost every day and in the group that walked less than 4 days per week. It is necessary to establish a prevention and management strategy for metabolic syndrome among young and middle-aged Korean women.
