Mediating Roles of Professional Consciousness and Self-Esteem in the Relationship between Disability Perception and Attitudes toward Persons with Disabilities among Personal Assistants

Abstract
본 연구는 장애인활동지원사를 대상으로 장애인에 대한 인식과 태도 간의 관계에서 직업의식과 자아존중감의 매개효과를 규명하고자 수행된 서술적 조사연구이다. 연구 대상은 J도시 장애인센터에 재직 중인 활동지원사 142명 중 응답이 불완전한 설문을 제외한 124명을 최종 분석에 포함하였다. 자료 분석은 SPSS/WIN 25.0 프로그램을 사용하여 기술통계, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson 상관분석을 실시하였으며, 매개효과 검증을 위해 Hayes의 PROCESS Macro v3.5(Model 4)를 적용하여 부트스트래핑 5,000회를 수행하고 95% 신뢰구간을 산출하였다. 연구 결과, 장애인에 대한 인식은 활동지원사의 태도, 직업의식, 자아존중감과 유의한 상관관계를 보였으며, 직업의식과 자아존중감 또한 태도와 유의하게 관련되었다. 또한 장애인에 대한 인식은 직업의식과 자아존중감에 영향을 미쳤고, 직업의식과 자아존중감은 태도에 직접적인 영향을 나타냈다. 아울러 자아존중감은 장애인에 대한 인식과 태도 간 관계에서 유의한 간접효과(β=0.12, 95% CI [0.05, 0.21])를 보였다. 본 연구는 장애인 활동지원사의 장애인에 대한 인식 개선과 자아존중감 증진을 위한 중재의 필요성을 시사하며, 이는 활동지원사의 심리적 안녕과 직업 만족도 향상, 장애인과의 긍정적 상호작용 및 서비스 질 제고를 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다.
This descriptive survey investigated the mediating roles of professional consciousness and self-esteem in the relationship between disability perception and attitudes toward persons with disabilities among personal assistants. A total of 142 personal assistants employed at a disability support center in J City participated, and 124 valid responses were included in the final analysis. Data analyses were conducted using SPSS/WIN 25.0, including descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation coefficients. Mediation analysis was performed with Hayes’ PROCESS Macro v3.5 (Model 4), employing 5,000 bootstrap resamples and 95% confidence intervals. The findings indicated that disability perception was significantly correlated with attitudes, professional consciousness, and self-esteem, and that both professional consciousness and self-esteem were significantly associated with attitudes. Disability perception had significant effects on professional consciousness and self-esteem, both of which exerted direct effects on attitudes. Furthermore, self-esteem showed a significant indirect effect in the relationship between disability perception and attitudes (β= 0.12, 95% CI [0.05, 0.21]). This study suggests the necessity of interventions to enhance disability perception and self-esteem among personal assistants, which may improve their professional well-being, job satisfaction, and positive interactions with persons with disabilities, ultimately contributing to the quality of support services.
